WHAT IS STERLING SILVER?
Pure silver, also known as fine silver is generally too soft for jewellery. Sterling Silver is the standard for fine jewelry. It is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper, which hardens the silver to make it last a lifetime. Sterling Silver is the whitest metal, much whiter than white gold or platinum. All silver must be polished. It turns black and must be polished with a silver polish or a silver dip. It can also be cleaned with warm soapy water and a few drops of ammonia – see later instructions for cleaning. Sterling Silver is safe for most people; there is no nickel in it. (Do not confuse silver from Mexico or other parts of the world with Sterling Silver. For example, some Mexican and Far Eastern Silver contain nickel).
WHAT IS VERMEIL?
Vermeil is a heavy 14K or 24K Gold plate over Sterling Silver. It is used when the fabricating processes do not allow the use of 14K Gold-filled. It is the next best thing to 14K Gold fill.
WHAT IS NOIBIUM?
Niobium is a pure precious metal, like gold or silver and can be worked with hand tools by artist designers. Its natural colour is silver-grey. It is coloured with electricity. Using a different voltage of electricity produces each colour. The colour is permanent and will not wash or wear off. By carefully varying the voltage different colours are produced. Colour is the vibration of light. The colour of niobium is produced by light passing through a thin transparent layer that bends the light and creates the vivid, vibrant colours.
Niobium is allergy free. It is used in surgery procedures, that is how pure it is. It contains no nickel and has no alloys in it. Even people who are allergic to gold can wear it. We guarantee it. (There may be a few hyper allergenic people who cannot wear it). Niobium is similar to Titanium .
It's also very easy to clean. You just wash it with warm soapy water.
WHAT PEARLS DO YOU USE?
We use genuine Fresh Water Pearls and Cultured Pearls and Cultured Fresh Water Pearls. They are selected for colour and lustre.
WHAT ABOUT YOUR OPALS?
We use genuine laboratory grown Opal, which insures consistency and intense colour and fire. They are coated with Lucite to protect them from drying or cracking.
WHAT ARE LABORATORY GROWN GEM STONES? - And How are they different from Natural Gemstones?
Laboratory grown gemstones are the same material and chemical composition as natural gemstones. The difference is, they are grown in a laboratory instead of in the ground.
WHY DO WE USE LABORATORY GROWN?
There are several reasons... quality, cost, consistency and availability. Natural gemstones are limited in where they can be mined and the quality varies from site to site. The prices vary widely based on availability, and the consistency varies all the time. Laboratory grown gemstones are more affordable, have a consistent quality and are readily available. As more and more people want the beauty of gemstones, at a price they can afford, laboratory grown provides all the benefits without the disadvantages of the natural gemstones. Pearls were not generally available to anyone but the very wealthy until pearls were "cultured" Cultured pearls, like laboratory grown gemstones require the intervention of humans in the process. And as we know, "Cultured Pearls" are now the standard of quality.
WHAT IS 14K SOLID GOLD?
14K Gold is the USA standard for fine jewelry. It is made up of 57% gold and 33% base metal. Pure 24K Gold is too soft to use for most jewellery so it is alloyed with silver, copper and other metals to harden and colour it and make it last a lifetime.
WHAT IS 14K FILLED?
It is the next best thing to solid gold. 14K Gold Fill wire is a tube of 14K Gold that is filled with a base metal, usually the alloys used to make up 14K solid gold. It can be up to 100 times thicker than gold plate. There is absolutely no nickel in it so it won’t cause allergic reactions. Only 14K Gold touches the ear. It will not tarnish, it is guaranteed.

HOW DO I BOOK A 'SPECIAL EXPRESSIONS' HOUSE MEETING FOR ME & MY FRIENDS?
Just email deb@specialexpressions.co.uk or call us on 01768775333 and let us know where you would like it, what date you would like it, how many invites you would like (always invite more than you would like to attend) and we will help with the rest! We give 10% commission to the hostess, this can be purchased in goods or alternatively we will leave a cheque made out to a charity of the hostess’s choice.
CAN I VIEW PAST ORDERS?
You can view past orders by opening a website account with Special Expressions Ltd. If you use the Special Expressions Ltd website with account details, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and password and for restricting access to your computer to prevent unauthorised access to your account. You agree to accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account or password.
